Murphy is known for great service, and our team members are the ones who make that happen! Each month we will highlight one of our team members so you can get to know the people behind the scenes!
As an accountant for thirty years, Beth Ekblad has seen her fair share of numbers. She excels at creating accurate reports and managing our accounting team for Murphy Warehouse Company, Murphy Logistics and Murphy Rigging. Considering what she does in her spare time you would never guess that she spends her days working with numbers as Murphy’s Accounting Manager.
After working with Murphy’s CFO, Tom Griep for 14 years at a previous employer, Beth got a call from her old friend when Murphy needed a new financial controller. Needless to say she took the job, and Beth and Tom now have 27 years in the books working together!
When outside of the office, away from the numbers and reports you can find Beth with a canvas or piano in front of her. Her passion for painting started in 2010 when she saw an ad for a painting class in Italy. After initially saying “no way”, she decided to give it a try. Six years later Beth has adopted her own style and technique! She even does in-home classes to show groups of participants that they can paint and create beautiful art without having formal training. The most important reward for her is witnessing people say, “wow, look what I made.” Beth’s artistic passion doesn’t stop there. She has been playing the piano for her entire life, and has even released three CDs. On Sunday’s you can find her playing as her church’s organist.
Beth uses the moneyshe earns from her art as a way to fuel her other passion… traveling! This year she will be making her sixth trip to Europe and her fourth to Italy since that fateful art class 6 years ago. She would love to live in Italy part time once she decides to close her accounting book and shut off her calculator for good.
Driven by our passions for innovation and creativity within the supply chain as well as our lives outside of work, you can trust that Murphy’s people will get the job done right every time.
